Twice a year (not including repeats) I am blessed with watching and hearing the Barrett-Jackson auction resounding throughout my house. My husband sits primed, ready with his ice tea and remote as the first car is ready to be placed on the auction block. For days, I watch him sit and oh and ah, over his dream cars that he will never be able to afford. Occasionally, I will hear “Hon, you have got to come see this car” or “Hon, you will not believe how much such and such a car sold for”. The Chrome Shop Mafia picks trucks from around the United States and Hijacks them as they driver through the Mafias home town of Joplin, Missouri. The Chrome Shop Mafia is part of the 4 State Trucks, Inc that is located near the Petro and Pilot truck stops where the Mafia picks up the trucks. Although the “hijacking” is not as realistic as other shows of this genre, it still makes for a terrific show as the Chrome Shop Mafia gives the gift to others that they cannot give themselves. As the 37th Annual Barrett-Jackson Auction rolled to a close Sunday night, there was nearly a $20 million dollars decline from the previous years. In 2007, the Barrett-Jackson Auction sold 1271 vehicles for nearly $112 million dollars. The estimated totals for the 2008 auction were 1163 vehicles selling for $88 million dropping the average price per vehicle down nearly $13,000.
